Privacy Policy
Tongueforge is private by default. There is no account, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Your learning data stays on your device and in your own iCloud — we never see it. This page explains exactly what that means, in plain language.
Effective 15 July 2026
On-device and in your iCloud.
Everything you create by using Tongueforge — your cards, review logs, schedules, progress, level, and settings — is stored locally on your device. The app is fully usable offline.
iCloud sync (CloudKit)
If you're signed in to iCloud, your review data and progress sync across your own Apple devices through Apple's CloudKit in your private iCloud container. This data is controlled by you and governed by Apple's privacy policy. Tongueforge never has access to it, and there is no Tongueforge server holding your progress. You can turn iCloud sync off in iOS settings at any time.
Export and delete
You can export all of your learning data as JSON from within the app and import it again on another device. To delete your data, delete the app and remove its data from iCloud in iOS settings — because there's no account and no server, that's all it takes.
Crash and performance reporting.
To keep the app stable, Tongueforge uses Sentry to collect crash reports and performance traces. This is the only data that leaves your device and reaches a service acting on our behalf. It includes technical information such as device model, operating-system version, app version, the crash stack trace, and timing of in-app operations.
These diagnostics are not linked to your identity and are not used to track you. We use them solely to diagnose crashes and improve performance. Sentry processes this data on our behalf under its own privacy terms.
The optional “Say it” mic check.
Tongueforge includes an optional, ungraded speaking check. It only runs when you tap the microphone, and it exists purely for gentle pronunciation coaching — it never affects your scheduling or progress.
Recognition is performed on-device when your device and language support it, with Apple's speech recognition as a fallback (in which case audio is processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy). Your audio is not stored by Tongueforge and is not sent to us. iOS asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission before the feature is ever used, and you can decline or revoke it anytime.
No tracking, no selling, children, and changes.
No tracking. Tongueforge does not track you across apps or websites. It contains no advertising SDK, no advertising identifier, and no third-party analytics.
No selling or sharing. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone. There is no data broker relationship and no advertising network involved.
Children. Tongueforge is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content, but it is designed for adult learners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app requires no personal information to use.
Changes to this policy. If we update this policy, we'll revise the effective date above and post the new version here. Material changes will be reflected in an app or App Store update.
